Please take a few minutes to click on this picture and watch the video....  then come back.

What an inspiring women!

Now, I have been thinking about what to do next for The20Project ... we need to create a meaningful video.

I need:
1. Someone to volunteer to put all of the footage together (I am not a video wiz)
Picture
(click on the pic for the full story)
2. ALL of the contributors to go out on the street with a camera of some sort and go film 10 people asking them one simple question "what is the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you"
(we will need a release form of some sort that people can sign as well....)

3. Send the clips to our volunteer video wiz to be incorporated into a video with some fun music and compelling story.

4. Once this is done I am going to put a kickstarter campaign together to help pay for our publishing costs and hopefully attract some attention for The20Project - and also raise money for our charity.

5. In the comments of this post please indicate your ideas for our charity....  I think the proceeds should go somewhere that they are going to make the biggest difference.   Kids? Young Adults? Families?  Environment?    Make your case!

Happy Tuesday!

I love the idea of a charity that helps out children/teens. It ties in nicely with what we are trying to do with the book.
I'll make some calls and see if I can find someone that will do the video stuff.

I have to confess to being somewhat biased when it comes to a choice on the charity, as I am a trustee for a UK based charity called Makomborero (www.makomborero.info). The charity's work is carried out in Zimbabwe (my home country) and gives under-privileged kids the opportunity to do their A-Levels (age 17-18). The charity is now working with it's 4th intake of students, and all of our students have done amazingly well, with quite of few of them getting scholarships for universities in the US, Turkey, etc. In fact, one of our students who is now studying in Boston wrote a piece that so wanted me to connect The 20 Project with Makomborero, but I haven't really known how.

One comment on the video, having tried a couple of times to do a 'home-made' video for Makomborero, is that you really need a separate microphone to the camera, otherwise the speakers words tend to get drowned out by the background noise. You also need the camera to be on a tripod of something else stable otherwise the camera shake is very distracting.

Great ideas both... any other ideas to throw in to the pot?

I have always been given to the same organisation that does great job in all countries and serve everyone: Amnesty International, http://www.amnesty.org/

Perhaps for those whoare unable to produce decent quality video they can submit audio or text that can be edited into the video.

With regards to a charity I definitely think it should be child/youth based. Maybe a youth entrepreneurial scheme. Or even something as simple as donating to kick starter campaigns that align in some way with our project.

I think it would make sense to find a charity that supports the youth- this is what the project is about.

This all sounds great - any ideas on a youth charity?

I don't mind much where the money will go if there are any, but to me one think is really important, that the financial report of the organisation we will help is available publicly, just to be sure the money is really used to help people who need it...

I thought you were going to ask us to model nude, which I would have said yes to. :)

I think it's a cool idea to do a "man on the streets" type thing. I'm not good at video, but wonder if I could convince a guy we work with at my full-time job to do something as a donation.

As far as charities - I would be inclined to find something that can help pull kids up out of poverty or for homeless youth as there seem to be so many these days.

I love the idea of interviewing people on the streets! I would love to focus on an international charity that focuses on families. The one that I suggest is the "Women hold up half the sky" organization. The movement seeks to put an end to the oppression of women and girls worldwide through a transmedia project that uses video, websites, games, blogs and other educational tools both to raise awareness of women's issues and also to provide concrete steps to fight these problems and empower women

Ok, I'm in. May even get my kids involved in the video (they both have better phones than I do). As for a charity - agree strongly with the youth/child focus, but torn about a focus in the developing world vs. developed. I live in one of the richest counties in the US but regularly see homeless families begging for help beside the interstate. Will investigate youth/child focused charities here.

So, I am thinking about going with Nicky's suggestion since she seems to have such a strong tie with the organization and there are already success stories associated with it...
Makomborero (www.makomborero.info)

Will send out an email today on this :)

I think these are great ideas. I also like the idea of helping youth in less fortunate circumstances, so Makomborero sounds great! I'm up for doing a video. It may not be the best quality, but hopefully the editor will be able to work with it.
